The Reader
reading the past for the future
Who we are

We are building a community of people who want to look beyond the surface and understand the world in all it complexity.
We get together twice a month to read and discuss one of the works from the 'Great Books' list.
Manifesto

We believe in the concept of great books - books that solve the eternal problems of mankind.
They stand over time. They urge us to think.
We are accustomed to thoughtless scrolling on the Internet.
Reading of great books should not be a mere absorption of the text. Reading is a dialogue.
And we believe that the future of mankind is for those who can read.
Carefully read the book about important, deep, eternal.
We love challenges that extend the boundaries of our understanding, because they make us stronger.
We want to 'suck out all the marrow of life' as Henry David Thoreau used to say.

Since January 2019 we have discussed 8 books including Plato's 'Apology', Marcus Aurelius 'Meditations', Leo Tolstoy's 'What is Art', Homer's 'Odyssey', John Stuart Mills 'On Liberty'.
